When first creating the Americat, the initial motivation of Americat Marine, Corp. was to develop a
superior offshore fishing boat. A boat that could handle the extreme west coast conditions
safely and comfortably would serve our needs perfectly. As it turned out, we managed to meet
these goals and a whole lot more.

|
We wanted our boat to have considerable offshore range. This meant our boat may be put in a
situation where loss of power could be disastrous. We decided the perfect boat would need to
have at least two engines and be able to plane using only one engine if need be.

We looked at the most advanced hull designs and kept coming back to new catamaran designs
that took full advantage of dual-engine setups. They had everything we wanted; stabilty,
superior ride, and fuel economy were all inherent in these catamaran designs.

Further investigation revealed that these "new" designs weren't so new. Australia, New Zealand,
Scandanavia, South Africa, and the European community had adopted this cat design for use as patrol
boats, fishing boats, and transport as early as 20 years ago.

|
With our catamaran ideas in hand we hired naval architect Patrick Bray from
Bray Yacht Design and designed and built a prototype.
We spent nine months testing and fine-tuning the hull and found we had a west coast boat second to none.
