Not all catamarans are created equal. The old-style catamaran uses symetrical hulls and, although this
is a vast improvement over monohull technology, there is room for improvement. The Americat uses the latest
technology which is an asymetrical design. It has been found that besides being an extremely fuel efficient
design, a catamaran with asymetrical hulls also offers improvements in sea-keeping and handling in general.

At rest the Americat does not rock back and forth or snap as monohulls do. Standing up against the
gunnel while playing a fish, using the net, or winching a crab pot aboard can be done in
complete safety. Under power the Americat is just as solid, even while throwing it into 180
degree turns.
|
From the moment the Americat is throttled it is up and running. Acceleration is very fast and with no
bow rise it can be done safely. The pounding associated with monohulls does not exist with our catamaran.
Even at speeds in excess of 35 knots the Americat gently cuts through the unnatural wakes of tugs, ferries, and
yachts.
Our construction method, which
is more efficient and less expensive, creates a hull that is five times as strong as a straight glass
lay up and much lighter. The small profile presented by our twin hulls causes our boat to cut through
waves rather than pushing through them. The Americat's lightness and efficiency translates to boating
and trailering savings.
